2 Cakes; 1 Buttercream – Part 1: Moist Chocolate cupcakes with Tart Raspberry Buttercream

I have a confession to make. I love my best friend’s Fresh Tart Raspberry Buttercream recipe. It tastes absolutely amazing. I have used it to fill French Macarons and I’ve had it on top of sweet vanilla cakes.

But those are both light and simple flavors. I wanted to taste them with something equally complex. I wanted to taste something rich to complement the tart.

I was a little worried that this would be a little bit of a clash, but it turns out, the richness of the moist chocolately cake paired perfectly with the tart raspberry.

Italian Hazelnut Florentines and the Granville Island Market

Recently, I was down in Granville Island for a wedding and between the ceremony and the reception, I decided to hang around and explore one of my favorite places on earth. The Granville Island Market. It is just a beautiful place and a bit of a culinary heaven, in my books. I completely forgot to take good photos of anything and really just took random cell phone photos.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Icing

I have been dreading this, but the time has come.

Pumpkin Spice Season.

Don’t get me wrong. I love pumpkins, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I just hate what it represents. It’s the Grim Reaper of Summer. Even though something wonderful occurs at the start of pumpkin season, it nevertheless ushers in the inevitable heartbreak of the end of summer.

But to honor the upcoming fall season, I decided to suck it up and make some Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes for the Cops for Cancer ride of Northern BC.

Citrus Scented Cream Puffs

There are certain types of foods that constantly call my name. There is something about a fluffy and light choux pastry that I cannot resist. They could be cream puffs, eclairs, profiteroles, or cruellers. Those pillowy pockets of deliciousness constantly call my name like a drunk girl calls her ex.

And when they look as good as this, can you really blame me?

My Macaron Adventure – Tea Party Continued and Contest Winner

Macarons are hard. Seriously. They are incredibly finicky and if you mess up one little step, they lose the incredible charm that is associated with this little french cookie. When Rina told me that she wanted a french themed tea party about a month ago, I was so excited! I have always loved French macarons, but they were often too pricey for me to just buy and gorge on. A few years back, I had purchased a dozen macarons from Little White House from Fort Langley and I have been in a love affair with them since. It’s a shame that they cost $18 for the dozen. (Still totally worth it!)

So I naturally jumped at the chance to make them. Although you see a beautiful photo of some successful macarons (courtesy of Alanna Milaney Photography), my initial journey was anything but perfect.
